Pa gamau y mae Llywodraeth Cymru yn eu cymryd i fonitro nifer y cleifion sy'n cael diagnosis o lewcemia mewn sefyllfa gofal argyfwng?
Unfortunately, there are a number of cancers which can show few or no signs in their early stages and are more likely to be diagnosed in emergency settings than other cancers. This reflects the difficulty in identifying certain cancers based on symptoms, or the potential for an incidental finding when someone attends an emergency department for another reason.
The Welsh Government does not routinely collect data on route to diagnosis (for example, GP, emergency department, screening) for any cancer type.
A key focus of the our policy approach is earlier diagnosis, to ensure more people have access to treatment, which will help prevent people presenting in emergency settings with undiagnosed cancer. This approach has been strengthened by the implementation of referral guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, educational support to referrers, and the introduction of Rapid Diagnostic Centres for people with non-specific symptoms.
