Welsh Government has ensured that employability support in Wales is inclusive for disabled people and that employers are supported in recruiting and retaining disabled workers.

For the 2024-25 financial year, 25.6% of Jobs Growth Wales+ participants (16–19-year-olds) self-identified as having a learning difficulty or disability. Of those young people, 62.3% recorded a positive outcome when leaving the programme.

Around 31% of participants who have engaged with Communities for Work+ since April 2018 have declared themselves as having a work limiting health condition and 13% of participants consider themselves to be disabled.

The Economic Inactivity Trailblazer pilots in Blaenau Gwent, Denbighshire and Neath Port Talbot are specifically supporting those who are economically inactive and who are disabled, have a health condition and/or caring responsibilities.

Our team of Disabled People’s Employment Champions, all of whom have lived experience of being disabled or caring for disabled people, help employers understand the social model of disability, supporting them with the recruitment and retention of disabled workers and learning about making reasonable workplace adjustments.
