Digital competence is one of the mandatory cross curricular responsibilities within the Curriculum for Wales, supporting learners to use digital technology in a safe, ethical and responsible way.

The Digital Competence Framework (DCF) includes several strands that support the safe use of mobile technology. This includes digital safety, online identity and behaviours, and data awareness, developing essential skills to thrive in a digital world.

I am committed to ensuring that the DCF remains responsive to emerging technologies and evolving digital practices, and as such my officials have started to review the framework.

We have engaged teachers and industry partners as part of the review. Collaborative events took place over the summer term, the evidence from which will help to inform work over the coming months.

The Keeping safe online area on Hwb provides current resources, guidance and training to support children, families, educators and governors in developing digital resilience. Our Enhancing digital resilience in education action plan continues to guide our work in strengthening online safety across education.

I have allocated £1.4m over 3 years to support understanding of computing and digital skills and will be announcing the outcome of this shortly.
