Industry, the farming unions, vets, other organisations and the Welsh Government are working in partnership, with the common and shared goal to eradicate BVD in Wales.
To prevent the spread and to facilitate the eradication of BVD, the Welsh Government introduced the Bovine Viral Diarrhoea (Wales) Order 2024 mandating annual screening for BVD in all cattle herds. The next phase of the legislation will come into force in Summer 2026 which will provide for movement restrictions of animals from herds with BVD results that are not negative or have not had their annual screening test.
