The Strategic Programme for Mental Health (SPMH) is reviewing its governance and implementation structure to deliver its priorities, informed by the new Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy. The intention is this approach will strengthen clinical leadership at a senior level across the programme and ensure a sustainable structure aligned with the strategy.

The CCQI Type One standards for perinatal mental health services will continue to be monitored quarterly. Issues will be addressed with health boards through the existing performance and assurance systems. Moving this arrangement into the Integrated Quality, Planning and Delivery (IQPD) process will ensure health board executive teams have continued oversight and will be held directly accountable for their performance and any improvement plans.

Any remaining national transformation or safety work for perinatal mental health services will be picked up in the national steering groups that sit within the SPMH. The SPMH will formally be accountable to the Joint Ministerial Assurance Board that is being established to scrutinise progress against the implementation of the strategy. There is a requirement in the delivery plan that co-production is embedded in the development and delivery of all actions.
