Pa Aelodau o'r Senedd oedd y bresennol yn uwchgynhadledd ymddygiad genedlaethol Llywodraeth Cymru ar 22 Mai 2025?
All manner of issues with and concerns about behaviour in schools and colleges were raised in the discussions at the National Behaviour Summit. Presentations were provided by Estyn on their recent thematic reviews around behaviour in secondary schools and further education, and by Professor Carl Hughes on the recently published research undertaken by Bangor University. We then focussed discussions around three key areas signified as challenges in our recent survey that concluded in April, these were:
- Leadership and Teaching
- Approaches to inclusion and well-being to meet the emotional and behavioural needs of all learners
- Bridging the gap – working in collaboration with families, community engagement
Although discussions were framed around these topics, attendees were able to raise other challenges and suggestions. Many did during the course of the day and this was reflected in their notes and feedback captured.
The Minister for Further and Higher Education and I attended the summit. No other Members of the Senedd were invited to attend or did attend.
We have released information on expected attendees under an FOI request linked here. Regarding the organisations that declined and did not attend, this question is a request for recorded information and as such has been passed to the appropriate Welsh Government Division for answer as a Freedom of Information request.
I committed to five immediate actions which were set out in my Written Statement which was published on 23 May. We will be undertaking further analysis work on the points raised at the summit and working with our partners to develop a longer-term programme of work on behaviour. I will also be meeting with Children and Young people, Parents and Educators in the coming months.
