The NHS Executive is leading the implementation of the Maternity and Neonatal Support Programme and coordinating programmes of work with key stakeholders. We published the Quality Statement for Maternity and Neonatal Services on 11 February, which sets out the standards women and families can expect to receive from NHS services and the perinatal engagement framework.

The NHS Executive continues to work on the national perinatal dashboard to enhance oversight and monitor outcomes. The perinatal workforce plan is being developed by Health Education and Improvement Wales and is due to be published in late Spring.

The Maternity and Neonatal Network has also been scaling up best practice initiatives across Wales. This includes Periprem Cymru (optimising outcomes for preterm babies) and the roll out of a national identification tool for early identification of deterioration in mothers and babies. This work has been supported by maternity and neonatal champions funded across health boards.
