Supported by Welsh Government and UK Government the North Wales Growth Deal offers the opportunity for a total of £1bn of investment, over 15 years, by delivering a more vibrant, sustainable, and resilient economy across the whole of North Wales.
Delivered by Ambition North Wales, in partnership with a range of organisations across the public private and third sectors, the North Wales Growth Deal aims to develop growth in a scalable, inclusive, and sustainable way in line with the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act. Investing in projects that deliver new jobs and secure investment, Ambition North Wales has also committed to the delivery of wider benefits and social value. All projects are required to have a benefits framework in place and to commit to securing social value and community benefits through the procurement process. Examples of such benefits secured to date through projects include support to deliver STEM curriculum activities in schools, donations and support to community projects and commitments to supply chain expenditure in areas of depravation across the region.
One current example is Wrexham University’s new Enterprise Engineering and Optics Centre (EEOC) which is under construction. The project is projected to deliver over £7.5m of social value including:
- a commitment to £220,000 worth of employment opportunities in North Wales
- £1,723,700.52 of supply chain spend within the high deprivation areas of North Wales
- £2,619,792.71 of local supply chain spend within the six counties of North Wales
