Sport is a significant contributor to tourism, attracting visitors to all parts of Wales. Event Wales has successfully built a strong reputation for Wales as a prime location for hosting sporting events across the country.

Content, social media and PR opportunities are explored when Wales hosts professional level tournaments such the Senior Open Championship, the Wheelchair Rugby European Championship, and the Women’s Tour of Britain. The future programme of events is also very exciting. We will host major European rugby finals and the Women’s Open golf in 2025. We will be jointly hosting Euro 2028.

Cymru Wales marketing aims to elevate the profile of elite participation sports and other events targeting athletes through website listings and social media channels. Tourism content has focused on active adventure and has included content on park runs, cycling, walking activities and festivals.

International-focused opportunities, delivered through Wales.com, are designed to enhance our nation awareness. We work closely with the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) and the Football Association of Wales (FAW) to promote our national identity and celebrate our sporting achievements.
