In December 2023 we published our new Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller guidance for schools. The purpose of the new non-statutory guidance is to provide schools and education settings with up-to-date examples of effective practice. It illustrates positive ways of supporting Gypsy, Roma and Traveller learners, so they can learn and reach their full potential.

The Curriculum for Wales offers new opportunities for schools and education settings to ensure learners from Gypsy, Roma and Travellers remain engaged in education, and feel supported to overcome barriers and challenges they may face.

The Welsh Government provides annual funding of £11m via the equity strand of the Local Authority Education Grant (LAEG) to support ethnic minority communities including Traveller learners who face barriers to education.
