Compliant ventilation and humidity control, as recommended within Welsh Health Technical Memorandum (WHTM) 03-01 Specialised ventilation for healthcare premises, helps to prevent the formation of mould growth in hospital spaces.
Hospital care environments are subject to rigorous monitoring and control measures to ensure compliance with infection prevention and control standards, as set out in Welsh Health Building Note (WHBN) 00-09 – Infection Control in the Built Environment. This includes regular inspections, environmental sampling, continuous risk assessments, and ongoing surveillance programs. Staff receive regular training, and incident response protocols are in place to address any increases in infection rates. Compliance audits are conducted to maintain adherence to guidelines, and all equipment is meticulously maintained to prevent contamination.
Health boards also adhere to the National Standards for Cleaning in NHS Wales.
