As outlined in my response to you in the Senedd on 10 July, the responsibility for the employment of teachers lies with local authorities and governing bodies; Welsh Ministers are not able to intervene. We continue to monitor the situation across Wales and work with schools to minimise the impact on learners.
Local authorities are expected to work with schools to ensure school funding arrangements are effective in supporting and raising the achievement of all learners. However, schools may have to make difficult decisions in order to operate within their budget or changes in circumstances, which may include changes to staff hours or redundancies in order to make best use of the resources available.
We continue to hold regular meetings with Local Authorities and we are working to agree a way to gather data on the level of any redundancies.
