The Welsh Government has a strategic ambition to grow the screen sector in North Wales.

Since its inception in 2020, Creative Wales has played a key role in securing large scale productions to North Wales through its Production Funding scheme. This has resulted in close to £10 million being injected directly into the North Wales economy. Most recently this included the second series of House of the Dragon for HBO, which is one of the biggest dramas to ever film in the region.

In 2022, the Welsh Government supported the development of Aria Film Studios on Ynys Môn / Anglesey, having identified studio space as an essential component to complement the stunning filmic locations and creating significant opportunities for further large-scale production and inward investment in the region.

To showcase Wales and its breathtaking locations, support mechanisms, and infrastructure, Creative Wales officials attend trade shows and industry markets to promote the country as an international filming destination. Additionally, the Wales Screen service, a key component of Creative Wales, offers practical support to productions and boasts an extensive online database featuring hundreds of North Wales locations.

At the local network level we also provide essential support for Gogledd Creadigol / Creative North Wales -  a group that aims to strengthen the creative and digital industries in the region. We provide continued support to our indigenous production companies based in North Wales with including development funding to help secure new TV commissions.
