We are committed to working with institutions and mental health professionals to develop a comprehensive approach tailored to the unique needs of students who may need additional support to flourish. As universities are autonomous bodies, they have their own legal duties to meet the requirements of the equality act 2010.
Since the judgement was published the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) has engaged with Students Unions Support Services and Universities UK is developing guidance for its members which includes all universities in Wales UK. Universities will already be internally reviewing their policies and procedures in light of the judgment’s recommendations. As we develop policy and guidance for the Commission for Tertiary Education and Research (CTER), including the conditions of registration we will take into account the implications of this ruling as they relate to equality and diversity, student welfare, retention and success, the student experience and learning and teaching.
