It is an offence to plant or otherwise cause to grow in the wild certain species of invasive non-native plant including Japanese knotweed and Himalayan balsam. Welsh Government contracts require our suppliers to have a sustainable approach to waste management and to comply with all relevant legislation. Environmental legislation is covered by Welsh Government’s standard conditions of contract for the supply of goods or services which apply to all procured goods and services for the organisation.

Advisory leaflets are available on the Welsh Government website providing information about how to identify control and dispose of Japanese knotweed, Himalayan balsam and Giant hogweed. Welsh Government has also published guidance on the control of Japanese knotweed in construction and landscape contracts.
