The Welsh Government is committed to ensuring that people with learning disabilities do not stay in a hospital for longer than absolutely necessary and wherever possible, they are cared for within the community, at home or as close to home as possible.
There are currently 21 people with a learning disability in a long-term, continuous care environment. It needs to be recognised that for a small proportion of the population, this type of long-term inpatient provision is the most appropriate way of ensuring their health and care needs are fully met.
