February’s dip in confidence reflects a wider trend seen across the UK as businesses continue to deal with challenging, economic conditions. We also recognise the volatility in the metric on a regional basis, likely due to the sample size, where in January, Wales did see the second highest growth in business confidence of any region.

The survey also shows that Welsh businesses are aiming to press ahead with their strategies for future growth and opportunities continue to emerge. We will continue to support our businesses through Business Wales, Development Bank of Wales and through our regional partnerships. This will continue to boost economic growth, focussed upon fair work and our approach towards a wellbeing economy.

We must recognise that the UK economy remains stagnant, with GDP per person having declined in each of the last seven quarters, an unprecedented period of deterioration.
