The Welsh Government provided grant funding to City to Sea for the Refill Wales project from 2018 to 2022, which promoted access to free drinking water across Wales. This was achieved by the installation of water fountains and engaging local businesses and public services in offering free water refills of reuseable bottles.
International evidence shows that developing a reuse system for drinks containers as part of a Deposit Return Scheme could further support the move to reuseable drinks bottles. We are therefore discussing with the drinks industry how greater re-use could be achieved in the drinks sector as part of the development of the Deposit Return Scheme.
