Wet wipes, even if made of purely natural fibres, cannot currently be recycled, as paper and card manufacturers do not take them. Rather than use a single use item, we instead, encourage the use of reusable options, where possible. Wet wipes containing plastic are identified as a priority product for action in The Environmental Protection (Single-use Plastic Products) (Wales) Act 2023. We recently consulted jointly with the other UK nations on proposals to prohibit supply of these products. We will shortly be publishing our response to the consultation which will outline next steps on this matter and an indicative timetable for future action.
