The CALL helpline offers free emotional support, information and literature on Mental Health and related matters to the people of Wales. Anyone concerned about their own mental health or that of a relative or friend can access the service.

I recognise that bereavement after suicide can be particularly devastating and it is vital that people can access support. We have developed the Help is at Hand resource to support people who are bereaved by suicide.

We also recently consulted on and will soon be publishing new guidance on ‘Responding to people bereaved, exposed, or affected by suicide’. The Guidance is aimed at those services who meet people impacted by a sudden or unexplained death that could be a possible suicide to provide a more compassionate response.

We are in the process of procuring a new National Liaison and Advice service for those bereaved or affected by suicide in Wales.  The procurement commenced in November and this new service will provide vital and proactive support to those affected by a suspected suicide within the first 48-72 hours following a death.

Over recent months we have been speaking to stakeholders to better understand the key drivers of suicide and self-harm in Wales and we will shortly be publishing our draft Suicide and Self-harm Prevention Strategy for Wales, alongside the draft Mental Health and Well-being Strategy for public consultation.
