Our Equality and Inclusion Programme provides support and service for diverse communities and key groups through representative organisations with appropriate expertise. We have provided significant investment in this way and intend to continue doing so.

For 2023/24 the Equalities and Inclusion budget included funding to organisations to provide support to individuals and communities across Wales in relation to gender, disability, Gypsies, Roma and Travellers, sexual orientation and gender identity, Human Rights and race. Funding was also used for ad hoc projects supporting different protected characteristic groups.

The following areas of work were supported:

  • Implementation of the Anti-racist Wales Action Plan including the All Wales BAME Engagement funding and funding for Black History Month and Windrush Celebrations.
  • Gypsy, Roma and Travellers including funding to Tros Gynnal Plant Cymru to provide advocacy services to Gypsy Roma Traveller communities.
  • Disability work including delivering the Disability Rights Taskforce and funding for Disability Wales and a Music and Culture event.
  • Gender including the Period Dignity grant and funding for Endometriosis Cymru website, Fair Treatment for the Women of Wales (FTWW), Girls Rights Collective Cymru, and Wales Equality Network (WEN).
  • Human Rights work including funding the 75th Anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights, Written declaration commitment - Workshops and Engagement and Survey of Human Rights Awareness.
  • Implementation of the LGBTQ+ Action Plan including supporting Pride, Pride Cymru and Stonewall.
  • Operational costs – staff costs.
