The Welsh Government’s Climate Action Wales: Public Engagement Strategy sets out a series of commitments to engage people in decision-making and the necessary action to meet our Net Zero 2050 target.
This programme follows the Climate Change Committee's (CCC) advice that public engagement plays an important role in meeting our emission reductions targets. All four UK nations are delivering public engagement programmes on climate change, and notably the CCC’s June 2023 report acknowledged that Wales is a step ahead of the UK in this vital delivery area.
Programme expenditure from April 2023 (when the majority of the programme activity began) to January 2024 is as follows:
- Public Engagement Strategy- £38,450
- National communications, which includes campaign design, production and media spend - £706,275.38
- Website - £196,536
- Wales Climate Week 2023– £61,250
- Climate Conversations Community Engagement Fund 2023- £36,791.62
- Social research - £55,110
