Our recent 2022 building regulation Part L (energy efficiency) changes includes solar PV within the notional building specification which sets the energy target. This encourages the use of renewable energy in all new dwellings. Our national planning policies, as contained in Planning Policy Wales (PPW) also complement the building regulations by supporting the development of renewable energy. We have also amended Permitted Development Rights so that most domestic scale renewable energy proposals do not require planning permission.
We continue to build our support for communities through the Welsh Government Energy Service, grant funding Community Energy Wales as well as supporting specific community-based projects, to develop additional offers for local businesses and supporting energy plans to highlight local opportunities which could support the delivery of renewable energy in privately owned building in communities. Together with our Green Business Loan Scheme and the support and advice available from the Welsh Government’s Business Wales service we are also helping businesses across Wales to decarbonise.
