The Welsh Government has no plans to install or operate chargepoints directly. We do, however, support Local Authorities through provision of grants from the Ultra Low Emission Vehicle Transformation Fund (ULEVTF).

We have also awarded funding to Transport for Wales to install 19 rapid chargepoints across the Strategic Road Network, along with fast charging infrastructure at their railway station car parks, starting with 10 locations along the Core Valley Lines.

We expect most charging infrastructure to be delivered by the private sector and will target public investment where there are gaps in provision. We are in discussion with a number chargepoint operators planning to roll-out electric vehicles (EV) charging infrastructure (on-street and hubs) across Wales. We are building a WG / TfW Commercial Steering Group that will help take those investment opportunities forward and accelerate the roll-out of charging devices and the transition to EVs in Wales.
