The Welsh Government recognises the important role of apprenticeships within the creative industries in Wales and, as such, we are ensuring there is a cross department approach towards developing relevant apprenticeship pathways for the sector. Creative Wales is working closely with officials from the Apprenticeship Policy Team as well as industry itself in this regard.

The Shared Apprenticeship Scheme Criw was established in both North and South Wales with funding from Creative Wales and was cited within the BFI 2022 Skills Review as an example of best practice. Every recipient of Creative Wales Production Funding is mandated to employ at least one apprentice as part of their trainee plan. Most recently Criw apprentices had the invaluable experience of working on the major HBO production House of Dragons which shot in North Wales.

Following the success of Criw within the screen sector, the Welsh Government is looking to roll this shared apprenticeship model out to other sectors, such as the music and games sectors, where this more flexible approach to providing apprentices with a series of shorter term placements works better than the traditional apprenticeship of one 12 month long placement.
