Health boards are one of a number of key players responsible for the delivery of our HIV Action Plan 2023-26. All health boards are represented on our HIV Action Plan Implementation Oversight Board and there is at least one health board representative on each of the five workstream groups established to take forward the 30 actions within the plan. In addition, health boards are heavily involved in the work of our new HIV collaborative body, Fast Track Cymru, which has been established in line with the action plan.

Many of the actions contained in the action plan, when implemented, will positively impact on the care provided to those with HIV by sexual health services. Examples of this are: partnership working with primary care for the provision of PrEP; engagement of their patients with Education Programmes for Patients (EPP Cymru) which provides a range of self-management courses for people living with a long-term health condition/s, and carers; prevention of late diagnoses; and ensuring patients continue to engage with services by reducing stigma and encouraging peer support.
