The Net Zero Skills Action Plan, which was published in February 2023, provides opportunities to build knowledge of the world of work in the green economy, this includes actions to promote engagement between schools, learners and employers to build confidence and knowledge in this area.

We continue to work with employers, schools, Local Authorities and learning providers to promote and help them understand the career opportunities and benefits to entering jobs within the green energy sector.

There are already excellent examples of good practice across schools and Further Education to engage young people with industry.  For example, primary schools in Pembrokeshire are working with a local employer to provide sustainable energy workshops for pupils aged 7-11.

Beyond 16 we are exploring options on how the apprenticeship frameworks can further meet the net zero commitments.  Building on these strong foundations, we will look to strengthen the offer of short courses to supplement and enhance net zero skills for young apprentices in new and emerging technologies and techniques through the Personal Learning Accounts.
