Beth yw strategaeth Llywodraeth Cymru ar gyfer asesu risgiau a manteision posibl deallusrwydd artiffisial i economi Cymru?
The Welsh Government is committed to the responsible and ethical use of AI, recognising its potential to transform the public sector and the economy while also being mindful of the risks and impacts on the workforce and human rights. Innovative and effective use of data is a core component of the Digital Strategy for Wales, which describes our vision for data-driven innovation and the adoption of technologies including AI. Our Innovation Strategy and our Manufacturing Action Plan also outline how we intend to use AI to benefit people, communities, and businesses in Wales.
We know that AI can bring benefits but also that it can carry risks if not used in the right way. As with all areas of responsible policy making and decision making, equality, inclusivity, safety, and social justice should be central to our thinking in how we use data and digital technology. AI is no different. As such we’re pleased to see Swansea University were recently involved in a successful bid with cross-UK partners to develop a Responsible AI partnership and will be working with them to help embed responsible AI thinking across our different sectors in Wales. We also have a close relationship with the Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation and seek advice where necessary on new and emerging uses of data.
Furthermore, we continue to engage with our partners to gain a better understanding of the risks associated with AI and the steps necessary to mitigate them. We support the need for appropriate regulations alongside relevant standards, governance, and assurance mechanisms to ensure that AI technologies are use in a responsible, ethical, inclusive, and safe manner.
The growth opportunities are welcome. The growth of the tech sector in Wales, exemplified by companies like Delineate, a pioneering technology firm, are providing high value and skilled employment in West Wales. The investment they are making is good news for the region and the Welsh economy and showcases the transformative potential of technology focused organisations. Our ambition is to attract investment through the implementation of our Economic Mission, and we will continue to identify ways to support businesses to deliver for our local economies.
