The special measures intervention at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board includes a broad programme of work, to improve the governance, service delivery and organisational culture across all parts of the health board.
In addition, work is also being undertaken across Wales to improve waiting times and the quality of cardiac services though the implementation of the quality statement for heart conditions. As highlighted in a recent paper discussed at the NHS Wales Leadership Board, we have seen several areas of good practice such as the development of pathways for several key heart conditions and within some parts of Wales new service models such as pharmacy or nurse-led heart failure clinics, enhanced outpatient referral triage and rapid access chest pain clinics. It is now important these examples are embedded in services across Wales to help transform care for patients with heart conditions.
