Since January 2021, any teacher who qualified in any country outside Wales has been able to apply to register with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) to teach in Wales. This is subject to meeting the required standards and holding the relevant qualifications.
In collaboration with EWC, we have developed the Educators Wales website, which hosts the relevant information for anyone interested in working in education in Wales, including advertising vacancies across Wales. Access is available to anyone registering with Educators Wales.
EWC regularly attends careers fairs and other events outside Wales to promote teaching in Wales as a career as well as providing advice and support for anyone considering a career in Wales. EWC also offers support to help individuals with application processes and interview preparation.
Our marketing and communications teams run campaigns to attract more entrants into teacher training programmes and these include activity on a UK-wide basis, such as a recent collaborative project with Reach publishing group to advertise teaching in Wales.
We offer a package of support to individuals trained outside Wales to enable them to deliver the Curriculum for Wales and our National Professional Learning Entitlement to enable individuals to progress their careers.
In conjunction with our partners, we are developing a process to track Welsh students who have undertaken their undergraduate degrees in other parts of the UK to promote teacher training in Wales to them. We are also seeking to track Welsh domiciled students who have undertaken teacher training in other parts of the UK to promote a career in Wales.
