My officials have convened a practitioner group focused on the specific challenges and opportunities presented by concurrent introduction of curriculum and ALN reform. The group is considering different ways to support the profession, as well as sharing experiences from their schools, settings, clusters and networks.

I recently published the Curriculum for Wales Annual Report 2023 which you can access via this direct link below. The report provides detail on progression to date, our focus on continued collaboration, and the support provided for implementation of the new curriculum.

More broadly in relation to teacher workload, my officials are currently in the middle of a series of negotiation meetings with  education unions and middle tier representatives that will continue at pace until the end of the academic year. They are looking at key issues, to effect change, and importantly, to ensure tangible improvements are seen by education staff at school level within the academic year 2023-24. From the feedback I’ve received from these meetings, it is pleasing to see that all stakeholders are committed to prioritising workload issues with a view to decreasing the burden on teachers.
