The Welsh Government has supported independent community publications through its funding of PING! News CIC to deliver the Public Interest Journalism Fund, which has awarded funding to My Welshpool, Caerphilly Observer, Llanelli Online, Cwmbran Life, Wrexham.com, Golwg 360 and Deeside.com.
The Welsh Government also supports the publishing sector through the Books Council of Wales (BCW), with the BCW funding publications through the Digital Welsh-language News Service, cultural periodicals and Welsh and English language magazines programmes in 2022/23,
In addition, the Welsh Government, through Mentrau Iaith Cymru, supports a network of Papurau Bro (Welsh language community local newspapers) throughout Wales.
