Please note:
- Additional staff were employed on temporary or short-term contracts during the course of the pandemic, contributing to an increase in turnover by comparison with previous years
- Students – this only includes students that are employed directly as staff
- The medical and dental data includes all grades from junior doctors to consultants. The inclusion of junior doctors may explain why turnover is higher than other groups
- Turnover rate definition. The turnover rate is defined as the number of leavers within the given period divided by the mean number of staff in the given period. This is given as a percentage. In the tables above, the turnover period is 12 months from December to the following November. These are referenced in the table by the final month (Nov-xx)
- Leaver definition. When an individual leaves a permanent or fixed term contract between two periods of time and they do not appear as an employee with a permanent or fixed term contract at the end of the period, either within the same organisation or within a different NHS Wales organisation, they are classed as a leaver
- If an individual leaves a permanent or fixed term contract during the month and they retain or take up a bank contract they will be classed as a leaver
- Individuals who leave a permanent or fixed term contract with one NHS Wales organisation and take up a permanent or fixed term contract with another NHS Wales organisation without a break in service will not be classed as a leaver
