The £4.54m funding over two years I announced in March 2022 is to deliver a programme of work to support a consistent national approach towards investigations following patient safety incidents of nosocomial COVID-19.

£4m (per annum over 2 years) has been allocated to health boards and trusts to enable them to deliver the investigation programme and up to £540K (per annum over 2 years) will be allocated to the NHS Wales Delivery Unit to support the consistent implementation of the Framework.

The key outcomes of the programme are to provide high-level assurance that all patient safety incidents of healthcare acquired COVID-19 are investigated in line with the requirements of Putting Things Right (PTR) regulations, and to ensure concerns raised by patients and their families are fully addressed.

An interim themed national learning report will be produced at the end of the first year of the programme (March 2023). This timing will ensure sufficient validation of the learning and actions required. In 2024 at the end of the programme an end of programme national report will be published. Individual organisations will also publish their own reports in line with reporting requirements.
