I have written, jointly with the Minister for Climate Change, to the Secretary of State Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), calling for support for those who are most in need during the cost-of-living crisis.
The UK Government has the powers to support households with the cost of energy through the Energy Prices Act 2022.
My officials have also been in discussions with their BEIS counterparts over the timing and mechanism for delivering the £400 of support for households across the UK. The households targeted by the scheme would otherwise miss out on the Energy Bills Support Scheme – which the vast majority of households are already receiving – as they do not have a domestic electricity contract.
My officials continue to engage with BEIS officials who have advised details will be confirmed shortly.
