We have issued updated guidance following consultation with clinicians stating that only those of secondary school age and above require screening prior to entering education. Those of primary age and below can enter education settings without delay and will be contacted to arrange screening later.
This approach enables individuals to enter education settings as quickly as possible and ensures that any additional burden on the NHS is minimised.
A dedicated TB pathway has been developed in collaboration with clinicians in the NHS in Wales, and all health boards have worked on plans to ensure TB assessments are prioritised.
We continue to work closely with the NHS in Wales and have agreed to review our guidance regularly to ensure that any risk to public health is minimised.
