Wales needs an increase in woodland creation to tackle the climate emergency; forestry businesses will be key to achieving this.

Our budget includes an additional £12m of revenue and a total capital investment of £57m for the National Forest and Welsh Timber Strategy over the next three years to 2024-25. We will develop a package of support for the forestry sector to increase tree planting across Wales. Funding will be made available via a number of forestry grant schemes including:

  • A new Woodland Creation Planning Scheme launched earlier this year offering grants of between £1,000 and £5,000 to develop plans for new woodland creation, including undertaking specialist surveys;
  • A new Woodland Creation Scheme to launch later this year, offering funding for those projects which have verified plans; and
  • Further funding from the National Forest Programme, again later this year, to include both support for woodland creation and enhancement of existing woodlands which have the potential to become part of the National Forest network.

In addition, the Business Wales website has a Business Finance Zone offering specialised advice and information to help people access finance.
