In October 2021, I invited developers to meet me to discuss their commitment to remediate their buildings, which have known fire safety issues. I met representatives from Taylor Wimpey, Persimmon, Redrow and R&M Williams.
I am pleased a number of large developers have set aside funds to replace cladding and address other fire safety work on properties in Wales.
However, it is disappointing that not all those specifically invited to attend the meeting accepted the invite. They are risking their companies’ reputation and leaving leaseholders and residents in extremely difficult circumstances.
We have always taken a clear stance that it is the responsibility of the developers to remedy defects in the buildings they built.
I will continue to engage with developers and press them to take responsibility and action.
