Over the last two years Cardiff & Vale University Health Board has seen significant increases in turnover by comparison with previous years in the following staff groups:

·         Additional clinical services (healthcare support workers)

·         Estates & ancillary

·         Administrative & clerical

The increase in turnover was predicted given the high number of staff in the above staff groups that were employed on temporary or short-term contracts during the course of the pandemic. In wave one the health board recruited over 1,000 additional staff and similar numbers for wave two.

The Cardiff & Vale University Health Board People and Culture Plan sets out the organisation’s ambition to improve retention across all staff groups. Targets and objectives have been set to bring turnover rates to pre-pandemic levels over the next three years. The health board also continues to strive to attract, recruit and retain staff, whilst being a great place to work and learn
