The Welsh Government provides Sport Wales with an annual Grant in Aid budget, which is then used to support a range of grant programmes. Some of these programmes may be used to improve sports facilities, such as the Be Active Wales Fund. The total Sport Wales Grand in Aid budget for the last three years, as announced at the second supplementary budget stage, is set out in the table below. Figures for 2021-22 do not include an additional £4.5m capital funding announced in February this year for priority projects, taking the total capital allocation to £13.129m.

The Welsh Government also supports the Community Facilities Programme, a capital grant programme which provides grants for community led projects seeking to purchase or improve community facilities. Sports clubs are eligible to apply for the programme. The Community Facilities Programme budget for the last three years was £5.034m in 2019-20, £5.838m in 2020-21 and £8.338m in 2021-22.
