Creative Wales was established in January 2020 to support the growth of the creative industries in Wales. Its work has played a key role in supporting the sector through the pandemic, with the Creative Wales team leading on delivery of the Cultural Recovery Fund and associated Freelancer Fund. Our focus is on supporting the key priority sectors of screen (film and TV), music and digital (including gaming and animation), alongside action to support the publishing sector through the Books Council of Wales. We continue to provide a range of funding programmes to develop new initiatives to support the sustainability and growth of these sectors.

An important element of our work is improving the skills base across the creative industries, recognising the importance of inclusive and accessible pathways and talent development to a diverse and thriving sector. This has been identified as a top priority and I recently announced the establishment of a skills body to make further progress in this area.

Action to take forward the commitments in the Welsh Government’s Co-operation Agreement with Plaid Cymru is also supporting the sustainability of a strong broadcasting and media sector in Wales
