Last year, we agreed a financial package to support Cardiff Airport in the medium term against a five-year plan for the rescue and restructure of the airport following Covid-19.

The pandemic continues to heavily impact the global aviation industry and the situation remains fluid. All airlines, including operators at Cardiff Airport, are reviewing their flying programmes based on international restrictions and demand. The air industry believes it will be 2024 before global aviation returns to pre-pandemic levels.

Our priority is to see the airport recover from the pandemic and become self-sustainable. We remain committed to maintaining an airport in Wales because of the benefits it brings to the Welsh economy as a whole, while recognising the challenges this creates for meeting our targets on decarbonisation.
