The Welsh Government commissioned the NHS Wales Delivery Unit to undertake a review to explore the provision of all-age Psychiatric Liaison and Mental Crisis Services. The review is looking at models of delivery, referral criteria pathways and current demand for services. The review will also look at the workforce and skill mix across those services.

The review is being taken forward in two phases. Phase one is looking at services for children and young people and working age adults. The fieldwork for this phase started in August 2020 and the Delivery Unit is reviewing each health board individually. Fieldwork is scheduled to be completed this year and for health boards to receive an individual report from the Delivery Unit with recommendations where appropriate.  We expect health boards to develop improvement plans once they have received and considered their individual reports. A national, thematic review will also be submitted to the Welsh Government by January 2022 to inform work at an all-Wales level.

Phase two of the review will commence next year and will focus on services for older adults.
