This financial year we will invest record levels of funding in flood and coastal erosion risk management across Wales totalling over £65 million.  This includes work on new flood and coastal risk management assets, maintenance work, small scale schemes, natural flood management, awareness raising and outreach work as well as mapping, modelling and forecasting.  All these activities result in our communities being better protected and prepared for future flood events.

In March we published our 2021-22 Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Programme setting out where we will invest our capital funding across Wales. This was accompanied by an interactive map showing the location and brief details of all schemes, which can be found here.

We have continued to provide 100% grant funding to Local Authorities to support their preparatory and development work on future schemes. I have also extended our fully funded Natural Flood Management programme for a further year. Together, these will ensure we have a pipeline of flood and coastal schemes coming through over this Government term to help meet the Programme for Government commitments to fund additional flood protection for more than 45,000 homes and the delivery of natural flood alleviation solutions.  The projects within our Coastal Risk Management Programme alone will reduce risk to over 18,000 properties. These schemes are currently at either the latter stages of development or construction phase.
