Severe and sustained disruption to supply chains in the construction sector are linked to the pandemic and above all the fallout from the UK’s exit from the European Union. The Welsh Government are in discussion with BEIS, material suppliers and the Construction Leadership Council to see how best to address the issues and will work with the industry through the Welsh Construction Forum to consider how we address materials price increases.   A Welsh Procurement Policy Note providing public sector bodies in Wales with advice on the actions that could be taken to manage and mitigate market pressures affecting the availability and afford ability of building materials will be issued shortly.

We are working with key stakeholders, including the Skills & Advisory group of the Optimised Retrofit Programme to support the development of our Net Zero Wales Skills Action Plan. Working alongside the Construction Industry Training Board, Regional Skills Partnerships and Qualifications Wales, a skills audit/mapping exercise is underway which will allow us to shape our offer to create a package of support to meet the needs of the sector.
