Road safety is a priority and we work with local authorities, the police and other partners to identify the need for road safety engineering measures to reduce the number and severity of collisions.

The Road Safety Grant is provided to local authorities to help reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on roads in Wales.  In the 2021/22 financial year, £3,515,226 has been awarded to local authorities for Road Safety Capital Schemes and £1,580,912 has been awarded for road safety training and education initiatives.

This year Monmouth has been awarded £158,205 for their 20mph pilot scheme in Abergavenny and a further £211,439 for their  scheme in Severnside.  They  have also been awarded £4,500 for monitoring and £47,270 road safety revenue funding to deliver road safety education and training initiatives.

Monmouthshire was further awarded £30,000 Safe Routes in Communities funding for a puffin crossing on Hereford Road / Osbaston Road in Monmouth and over £1.9m from the Active Travel Fund to take forward a wide range of walking and cycling improvements.
