This Government is continuing to invest in and develop support for veterans in Monmouth and across Wales.

Support includes annual funding for Veterans NHS Wales for those veterans experiencing mental health issues and enhanced prosthetics provision for veterans seriously injured in service. Through our Further and Higher Education Scheme we provide funding for veterans who wish to further their education. We recognise the wealth of skills veterans can bring to the workplace and have introduced our ‘Great Place to Work for Veterans’ initiative offering guaranteed interviews for those who meet the minimum job criteria. Whilst still in its infancy a number of veterans are in the process of securing employment with the Welsh Government.

We have provided funding to enable the Armed Forces Liaison Officers (AFLOs) to continue in their roles until 2023, to support those more vulnerable in our communities. For example, our AFLO covering Monmouth and all areas of Gwent, is currently delivering mental health first-aid training for professionals.

The Armed Forces Expert Group, which I chair, works alongside our AFLOs, Regional Armed Forces Fora and Champions and other key partners, to ensure our veterans are able to access the support and services they require.

Further details can be found in our Annual Report which I launched on 22 June.
