Network Rail’s Wales route team are responsible for the maintenance of the Wales and Borders network, outside of the Core Valley Lines. They are investing a record amount - over £2bn - in operations, maintenance and renewals this control period, which runs until 2024. In June, the Wales route eliminated open line working, a huge step in improving track worker safety.
