The Law Commission project on Enfranchisement made a comprehensive package of recommendations for reforming the legislation around leasehold extensions, alongside a number of other important areas of leasehold reform. I have previously indicated my broad support for their proposals.
Following the publication of our research on the sale and use of leaseholds in Wales, and having reviewed all of the evidence we have now gathered, I have recently announced my support for considering and implementing the Law Commission’s recommendations and other reforms, such as in relation to ground rents, on an England & Wales basis. This will help ensure leaseholders in Wales benefit from these reforms as swiftly as possible.
