The current Palliative Care and End of Life Care Delivery Plan has been extended until the end of March 2022 along with the £2m funding that supports its implementation. This extension will allow for reflection on the lessons learned and new models of care utilised during the pandemic.

I confirmed in November, that the new approach to major conditions would need to fit in with and take advantage of the opportunities set out in A Healthier Wales. This includes developing the concept of Quality Statements underpinned by NHS implementation plans at clinical network level as part of the intended NHS Executive function.

We have undertaken some preliminary engagement with stakeholders on the Quality Statements for cancer, heart conditions and stroke and will be setting out more detail in the coming months.

However, for successor approaches not replaced by March 2021, it will be a matter for the new government to consider following the elections in May 2021.
